Global Underground proudly presents the Plump DJ’s, who are releasing their first mix compilation for the label under the new GU DJ series which was launched earlier this year to critical acclaim by Nic Fanciulli.
The Plump DJs are London based production and DJ duo Lee Rous and Andy Gardner whose energetic, quirky productions and skilful, pounding DJ sets have acquired a loyal and admiring fan base the world over. Their sound is revered for its blurring of the electronic musical boundaries fusing breakbeat, house and techno with acapella’s and EFX in a fast paced cut-up style to create a mind blowing DJ experience wherever they play.
The Plumps as they are more affectionately known have also enjoyed major success both in the clubs and in the charts with over 30 of their own releases and remix commissions from the likes of BT, Orbital, The Freestylers, DeeJay Punk Roc and Mint Royal amongst others.
Having emerged from the Nu Skool Breaks scene at the end of the 90’s, the Plump DJs are the quintessential production duo. Over the course of twenty acclaimed singles and four superlative albums, Andy Gardner and Lee Rous have become heavyweights of cutting edge club music.
The Plump DJs soon became synonymous with the breaks scene and most importantly for them at the time, Fingerlickin’ Records. What followed was a succession of massive releases, including seminal albums ‘A Plump Night Out’, ‘Eargasm’, ‘Saturday Night Lotion’ and last years smash ‘Headthrash’. And have since toured the world incessantly. In one sense they’re right at the top of their game now, yet in another a whole load of new doors are opening. This GU mix comes at a new phase in the upward career trajectory of the duo.
Their double header for GU DJ is a sure-fire belter, leading you straight into their arms on the dancefloor. Over the last year, Lee and Andy have been experimenting both musically and technically, going out on the road with a 4-deck show, using four CDJ1000s, as opposed to taking turns on two – has seen them pulling all manner of mad tricks and blends, and this creativity behind the decks shows no sign of letting up.
This GU mix still has tracks from the bassline and fidget house scenes – as well as bits of electro, old skool hardcore, bass music and some wobbly B-More beats. This album is a great example of where they’re at right now, and trust us – they don’t stay in one place for long! They’ll have you bouncing around the place quicker than they’ve said ‘My Hi Tops’.
The mix took them a few weeks to put together. They ended up literally writing down all the titles of tracks and the key they’re in on pieces of paper, and dotting them around the studio floor. The task then became to juggle them all around like a jigsaw puzzle in an attempt to make them fit.
‘We are excited about joining the stella cast of DJ's on the global underground label, and have enjoyed piecing together this mix from an astounding amount of great music that available at present. Andy and Myself have worked hard to produce a mix that is representative of the 4 deck show that we have been touring worldwide for the past 9 months. We may be performing at a Discoteque near you soon, so keep your ears peeled.’ <span style="font-family: Skia; font-size:
